Not every job is planned in advance. Sometimes a call comes in where a system needs attention as soon as possible to prevent further damage or loss of hot water.

Recently, we were called out to a property with a leaking hot water cylinder. Leaks from a cylinder can quickly lead to bigger issues if left unresolved, so it’s always best to investigate and act quickly.

Assessing the Problem

After arriving on site, we carried out a full inspection of the existing system. It quickly became clear that the cylinder itself had failed and would need replacing to restore safe and reliable hot water to the property.

In situations like this, the best solution is often a full upgrade to a modern unvented hot water cylinder, which can provide improved performance and reliability.

Installing the New Unvented Cylinder

Once the issue had been diagnosed, we safely removed the leaking cylinder and installed a brand new unvented system.

The installation process included:

  • Safely removing the faulty cylinder

  • Installing the new unvented hot water system

  • Connecting and securing pipework and safety components

  • Filling and commissioning the system

  • Carrying out full safety and performance testing

Before leaving the property, we made sure everything was operating correctly so the homeowner once again had safe, reliable hot water.

You might notice we only have before and during photos of this job.

Apparently James was too busy doing a great job to remember the final picture! Sometimes getting the system installed and running properly takes priority over the camera.

Don’t Ignore a Leaking Cylinder

If you notice any signs of a leak from your hot water cylinder, it’s important to deal with it as soon as possible. Small leaks can quickly become bigger problems and may lead to water damage or a complete loss of hot water.

Common warning signs include:

  • Water pooling around the cylinder

  • Damp patches or corrosion on the tank

  • Drops in hot water pressure

  • Unusual noises from the system

If you spot any of these issues, it’s best to have the system checked by a qualified engineer.
